We have an aging Volvo V70 (well, at 15 years it is still going strong) and a Zoe (1st gen, inherited) and we are looking to replace one or both of these with longer range EVs (the Zoe only does 70 miles at this time of year).

We use the Zoe for almost all local journeys (unless we need to haul a lot of band instruments) as we fuel it for free off the panels on our roof (even in the UK!), so we would not go back to a fossil fuel car.

We tried a Tesla Y alongside an XC 40 and a Born and the Tesla just felt bloated and wallowing. Tesla had a first mover advantage but these days there are better, and cheaper, alternatives.

To replace the Zoe we will probably go for either an EX30 or a Renault 5.

Looking down our street there is one Tesla that arrived a couple of years ago, but all of the new vehicles are EVs and of a mix of other brands. Out of our window, I can see 2x ID.3, an MG, 2x BYD, a Leaf, a BMW, an Audi and an EV6.

As Tesla are not releasing any new models, they will need anti-free market capitalism tariffs to protect their domestic market.

Even looking at home batteries, all of the installations down our street are alternatives to Tesla Powerwalls. One family even has a battery that is made from recycled Nissan Leaf batteries.

I’ve made money out of Tesla (I bought shares at the start of the pandemic) but they have gone downhill so I’ve used the profit to buy BYD shares which are climbing.
